Hornby Island Ride

Come and join us for a day of riding on beautiful Hornby Island, July 17th 2011.

This ride is intended for riders of all ages and abilities, please visit Hornby Island for more information.

2011 Hornby Island Itinerary

Time: meet 8:30am-8:45am at Buckley Bay (give yourself enough time)

Ferry: 9:00am ferry from Buckley Bay (Van Is.) to Deman Island. Ferry fares are currently $9.00 per person for each ferry trip return for an adult fare, visit BC Ferries web site for more.

Ride: Each island is about 10km of cycling across with undulating terrain on rough pavement. Hornby offers excellent mountain biking for those who prefer a bit more of a challenge. We usually ride up Mount Geoffry along the"bench trail" and descend across to the other side to our eventual destination Tribune Bay Provincial Park where the BBQ is fired up for free lunch from your friends at PYW. We typically enjoy the beach for a few hours then make our way back to the ferry. I suggest bringing enough water and perhaps a snack for the ride over and a spare tube to be prepared for the odd mechanical along the way (everybody always does this, right?) BC Ferries also does NOT accept debit so bring cash or use a credit card.
Also bring your sunscreen.

Return Trip: 4:00pm return to Vancouver Island depending on ferry loads at this time.

Where is Hornby Island?
Hornby Island is located south-east of Denman Island off of the East Coast of Vancouver Island around 18 km (11 miles) south of Courtenay.

BC Ferries
To get here, the easiest way is to take the BC Ferries starting north of the small community of Fanny Bay at Buckley Bay. From Buckley Bay the ferry takes you over Baynes Sound to Denman West on Denman Island. Once on Denman Island, it is a short distance to the south-east side to Gravelly Bay where you catch another ferry to Shingle Spit on Hornby Island.
